5 Steps that lead to a high performing team

Why A High Performing Team Needs to Feel Good First

A high performing team is not just about skills or experience. It’s about energy. And mood drives that energy.

When people feel good, they show up better. They solve problems faster. They listen more. They give more effort.

But when they’re drained, stressed or just checked out, performance drops. The quality of the work slips. So do relationships.

If you want your team to perform well, you need to support how they feel. That doesn’t mean big changes. Small actions matter.

Here’s how to keep your team in a good mental space so they can do great work.

Step 1. Pay attention to the energy in the room

Mood is contagious. If one person is flat or irritated, others feel it.
Start meetings by checking the tone. Are people tense or tired? Call it out. Not to shame them. Just to show you notice.

Saying “seems like we’re all a little wiped out today” is better than pushing through like nothing’s wrong.

Step 2. Make time for real breaks

Don’t just tell people to take breaks. Build them in.
Give space between meetings. End a call five minutes early.
Let people step away without guilt. A short reset makes work smoother later.

Step 3. Celebrate the small things

You don’t need confetti. Just acknowledgement.

Say thank you. Point out effort. Share small wins.
When people feel seen, they keep showing up with more.

This is easy to forget when things are busy. But it matters.

Step 4. Bring in something different once in a while

Routine helps with structure. But it can also get boring.
Change the pace now and then. Bring in something unexpected.

That could be a fun group activity. Or a guest speaker. Or a magic show.

A short break from the usual can lift the whole team’s mood.
And a better mood leads to better work.

Step 5. Keep it human

Work isn’t just tasks. It’s people.

Ask how they’re doing. Not just the usual check-in.
Actually listen. Give space when needed.
People remember how they feel around you.

The more supported they feel, the more they’ll give back.

Want to lift your team’s mood with something fun and surprising?

Sometimes the best way to shift team energy is to give them something unexpected. Magic does that. It brings people into the present. It surprises them. It invites laughter and attention. It gives them a story to talk about.

That’s what I do.

I’m Chris Rose, a professional magician based in Arizona, I work with corporate teams across the state and beyond. My shows are interactive, designed to pull people in and help teams connect. I don’t just stand on a stage and perform. I move through the room. I build moments that teams carry with them long after the event.

Whether you’re planning an offsite, a team kick-off, or something informal, I can bring something to your event that people don’t expect, but always remember.
